North West Mountain Rescue Team recover casualty from Slemish
The North West Mountain Rescue Team (NWMRT) were called out to two casualties on Slemish mountain today. The two separate incidents occurred at around 1400 hours.
Both casualties were 11 year old children. One casualty was assisted to the bottom of the mountain, under advice and guidance from the team. The second casualty was hypothermic. Medical aid was rendered by the St John Ambulance and the casualty was stretchered from the mountain to an ambulance by volunteers of the NWMRT who had been training nearby.
Hill walker rescued on Galtee mountains
A hill walker was rescued on the Galtee mountains this afternoon after falling and sustaining a leg injury. At around 2.30pm today Gardai in Cahir Co Tipperary received a 999/112 call from a group out walking on the mountains, saying one of their group was injured and they requested mountain rescue assistance. The mountain rescue team (who were in Clonmel preparing to take part in the St Patricks day parade) went on full team call out and sent 3 vehicles and 17 team members to the area known as "Pigeon Rock Glen" where the accident had happened.
Major Mourne Search
Last Sunday (07-MAR-10) Mountain Rescue teams were called in by the PSNI to help locate a 65 year old gentleman described as 'vulnerable'. The man went missing at the end of a walk with a friend in the Murlough nature reserve outside Newcastle at about 12:30 on Sunday. The PSNI immediately called in a police helicopter to search the extensive area of sand dunes and farmland, requesting Mountain Rescue assistance at 17:00. A major search operation swung into action with the Mourne team and PSNI coordinating a large multi-agency response.
Mountain Rescue called out after shouts for help heard on Lugnaquilla
Volunteer members of the Glen of Imaal and Dublin & Wicklow Mountain Rescue Teams were called out this evening to help a group of mountaineers who had found themselves in difficulty on Lugnaquilla mountain in Co. Wicklow. The climbers had begun their ascent of a difficult gully climb shortly after 7am today, Tuesday 9th March, but ran into trouble at approximately 10am when they are reported to have 'run out of rope'.
Donegal MRT involved in body recovery
At 14.00 on Friday 07-MAR-10, the Garda from Glenties informed the Team Leader of a deceased person in the Galwolie area and that MR would be needed to extract the body. At 16.00, the team located the deceased person in the hill, packaged this person and commenced a stretcher carry to the main road. The team arrived at the roadside with the body at approx 18.00 where the local priest said prayers and the funeral director took the body away.
